Class Days – The Veterinary Assistant School consists of Home Study and Clinical experience. Home Study is completed at home. Your Clinical rotations are to be completed at Springboro Veterinary Hospital.
Term – Each Term is 10 weeks
Attendance is not taken, and Absenteeism is to be made-up at your discretion.
Certificate will not be awarded if all work is not completed before Graduation date.
Holidays – The Veterinary Assistant School is closed on all major Holidays
Snow Days– The Veterinary Assistant School follows Springboro School closings

Students begin classes on an individual basis, whenever they choose to start
To be admitted to the Veterinary Assistant School the perspective student must fill out an application, pay the application fee, set up an Enrollment Interview, and schedule a minimum of 4 hours of shadowing. Because this is a training school for entry-level employment at a Small Animal Veterinary Hospital, no prior experience is needed, but a High School Diploma or GED is required. After a personal interview and acceptance, students must pay their tuition, purchase their books, and have their school uniform, before starting classes.
The Veterinary Assistant School is a 10-week program consisting of 40 hours Home Study and shadowing hours of your choice, in the Hospital.
To receive a Certificate from The Veterinary Assistant School the student must pass 40 hours of Home Study work with a 70% or greater score.
Attendance will not be monitored at the Veterinary Assistant School All work must be completed prior Graduation.
Performance is measured at the Veterinary Assistant School on a Pass / Fail basis and by completion of all sections. If a student fails or does not complete a section, there will be time to makeup that section until passing or completion.
If a students program is interrupted or terminated for unsatisfactory work or attendance, that student can makeup that work or time and still receive a Certificate after passing the program.
There is not a probationary period for unsatisfactory progress. The student can re-enter the program at any time; they just have to complete the program in 10 weeks with passing grades.
Grading at VAS uses a Pass/Fail method with an overall passing score of 70% on all weekly lessons. The VAS Instructor will determine Clinical performance and participation.
10 Week Classes: This ten-week program requires clinical’s at Springboro Veterinary Hospital, and the Home Study work can be completed at home.
One Week All Day Classes: This program is for students that have time constraints, e.g. out of state students, on vacation from a job, etc. First, all 10 Home Study materials are completed at home; then the clinical’s are completed at Springboro Veterinary Hospital. This is an intense course and the tuition is higher.
1) Office Standards, Conduct, and Terminology (4 Hours)
This course teaches the standards of Care, Service, Conduct, Appearance, and Communication. Veterinary Medical Terminology is also taught in this section.
2) Dentistry (4 Hours)
This course teaches the information necessary to communicate to a client the necessity of dental care for their pet.
3) Ears (4 Hours)
This course prepares students to understand the diagnosis and treatment of common ear diseases in dogs and cats, and how to interact with the client regarding the problem.
4) Fleas (4 Hours)
This course teaches the fundamentals of the physiology, identification, and control of fleas. The Life Cycle, diseases caused by fleas, products and protocols, and client communication will be discussed.
5) Heartworms (4 Hours)
This course teaches the diagnosis and treatment of Heartworm disease. Prevention is focused upon, along with the different products.
6) Internal Parasites (4 Hours)
This course teaches the importance of internal parasites to the health of animals, how to perform fecal tests, identification of parasites, life cycles, client communication, the medications used for treatment, and public health significance of internal parasites.
7) Nutrition (4 Hours)
This course teaches the fundamentals of nutrition, so you can help clients make intelligent decisions regarding the health of their pet.
8) Animal Behavior (4 hours)
This course teaches the stages of puppy and kitten socialization, Ethology, training equipment and techniques, restraint, and housebreaking.
9) Vaccinations (4 Hours)
This course teaches the theory behind vaccines, the different vaccines available, the protocols for dogs and cats, and how to administer vaccines.
10) Dermatology (4 Hours)
This course teaches skin diseases and therapy as it applies to small animal veterinary practice.

Tuition and fee charges are subject to change at the school’s discretion. Any tuition or fee increases will become effective for the school term following student notification of the increase.

Payment
All fees at The Veterinary Assistant School are to be paid before classes begin.
Credit for Previous Education, Training, or Experience
The Veterinary Assistant School does not accept transfer credit nor allow credit for prior experience.

Scholarships & Grants
The Veterinary Assistant School does not offer scholarships, nor have access to institutional grants.
Grievances
Initial complaints are to be directed toward the Veterinary Assistant School Administrator; so all concerns can be addressed promptly and at the location of the school.
If initial attempts at settlement are not satisfactory, then subsequent meetings will be scheduled and all parties will make an honest attempt to resolve concerns.
Advanced Veterinary Assistant Program
The Veterinary Assistant School offers an Advanced Veterinary Assistant Certificate program for our Veterinary Assistant graduates, or for others who have equivalent experience. Inquire with school administration for details.
